L.E.T.S. Play’s programs primarily serve students in Nashville’s immigrant and refugee communities. Our camps and workshops focus on providing children who do not speak English as a first language a fun and safe environment to play, build confidence, and build their language skills.
Summer Camps
L.E.T.S. Play offers two summer camps for refugee and immigrant students.Camps are two weeks long and held at different school and community sites across Nashville. Registration is free and students are provided with breakfast, snacks, and lunch.
2019 Stats:
- Approximately 100 students served
- Campers spoke eight different languages and represented 13 different countries, including Tanzania, Uganda, Congo, Sudan, Egypt, Peru, Mexico, Honduras, Guatamala, and Nepal.
- Campers demonstrated 37.2 percent average growth between pre- and post-test, with lowest scoring students showing an average 102.9 percent growth.
Spanish Immersion Camps
L.E.T.S. Play offers a week-long summer Spanish immersion camp for students looking to learn or practice a second language. The camp is open to students in grades 3-6 of all Spanish and soccer skills. A registration fee applies and all proceeds go back to supporting L.E.T.S. Play’s programming.
School Day Programming
Through partnerships with Whitsitt Elementary and University School of Nashville, high school volunteers travel to lead student workshops once a week during one of their class times. These volunteers bring energy, excitement, and a lesson plan to about 15-20 students who choose to be involved with the program.
Afterschool Programming
L.E.T.S. Play partners with afterschool programs to provide after school workshops. Previous partners include the Metro Nashville Public Schools Office of English Learners, the Nashville AfterZone Alliance, and the Nashville International Center for Empowerment
